About Deepa
I’m Deepa Karmakar, LCSW, and I specialize in supporting individuals through the layered experiences of trauma, grief, attachment wounds, and relational challenges. My practice is centered around creating an affirming and grounded environment where you can feel genuinely understood and cared for. Healing isn’t about forgetting the past—it’s about making meaning of your experiences, reconnecting with your inner strength, and moving toward a life that feels rooted, secure, and aligned with who you are.
With training in EMDR, Brainspotting, and Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP), I take an integrative approach that honors the mind-body connection. Whether you’re processing deep-rooted trauma, navigating relationship challenges, or seeking to reconnect with yourself, I’m here to help you untangle the past and step into a life of greater clarity, peace, and empowerment.
Specialties & Expertise
At Healing with Deepa, I work with individuals facing:
- Trauma & PTSD: Including complex trauma and interpersonal violence.
- Grief & Loss: Whether through dysfunctional families, death, breakups, divorce, or other life transitions.
- Attachment & Relationship Challenges: Including self-worth, boundaries, and connection.
- Therapy for Foster and Adoptive Families: Supporting adopted individuals and those formerly in foster care, along with parents facing the unique challenges of fostering or adopting.
- Justice-Impacted: Providing advocacy and healing. I offer personalized, compassionate care for individuals with lived experience in the justice system. Whether you’ve been directly impacted by incarceration, systemic injustice, or cycles of harm, I understand the importance of holding space for your full story—without judgment. My work includes advocacy, trauma-informed support, and a deep commitment to honoring your resilience as you reclaim your voice, autonomy, and healing on your own terms.
- Survivors of the Troubled Teen Industry: Therapy for those healing from emotional abuse, coercion, and institutional trauma experienced in residential programs, boot camps, and wilderness therapy.
Therapeutic Approach
I believe healing looks different for everyone. Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you—it’s about helping you make sense of your experiences, strengthen self-trust, and create lasting change. I incorporate:
- EMDR & Brainspotting: Trauma-focused techniques that support deep healing beyond talk therapy.
- Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP): A nervous system-based approach to regulating emotions and reducing stress.
- Attachment-Based & Psychodynamic Therapy: Exploring early life patterns to understand present-day challenges.
- Internal Family Systems (IFS) & Polyvagal Theory: Helping you reconnect with your inner self for greater emotional balance.
- Inference-based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT): A structured, insight-oriented approach to treating anxiety and intrusive thoughts.

Whenever we care for someone, we cannot remind ourselves too often that it is not we who are going to heal someone; we are simply going to create the inner and outer conditions, which are most favorable for the operation for what is already whole in that person. What is most precious does not need to be brought in by us, for it is already there, inside them.
